You should be able to match the glow plug type to the car’s registration number or Vehicle Identification Number (VIN) with Vauxhall/Opel’s parts system… though obviously you will have to speak to a main dealer or authorised parts supplier to accurately access the information. With any luck they WON’T be the same as mine, and might be cheaper!! (Be warned that the ebay or Amazon parts matching to car models might not be 100% accurate due to changes to exact parts fitted throughout the life of a car’s manufacture. I found taking out the fitted part and looking for a part number most efficient, though even then the currently available part had a different number!)

It does indeed sound “very odd”… particularly if there really are no error codes being logged. Have you read the codes with a full Vauxhall dealer’s set up? There always seem to be some things they like to keep to themselves!

I too recently found that a new battery resolved some unusual issues, even though the Start/Stop was still operating ok. I think they just like to have batteries at near 100% state of health and charge most of the time.

I guess that they also like fresh oil as much as you feel you can treat them!

If the ‘fault’ is seemingly completely random, I think I’d try to look at all of the wiring to the various sensors that might suddenly make it panic into SVS limp home. If there is any damage that might occasionally send a spurious signal, it might have that kind of effect…. though I’d hope that the error code log might give some clues as to where to look. Sounding like a tractor on start up (by which I assume you mean slightly rougher than usual!) might suggest that it is getting confused by a sensor reading too much/too little of something… and most odd that it appears to have resolved itself in the new year! (I forget, was December particularly cold in comparison to January? Did the car just like the slight break over Christmas!?!)

Do let us know what you find. My apologies that I can’t suggest anything specific. Hopefully a little bit of extra digging will identify an easy to fix issue!

Wanted to thank you for putting this together as it helped me fix my 2014 Astra J 2.0 CDTi as it failed its emissions test. I’d been suffering with limp mode and on and off SVS warnings. Replaced the lambda sensor and straight away warning gone and normal car performance.

If Google Translate is giving me the correct story, you are getting the SVS warning when the engine’s RPM gets quite high, and the car goes into “limp home mode”? You mention “the turbo going out of the circuit”, which is probably the “limp home mode” where the car feels like it has no power?

If I remember correctly, when I had a similar issue, it was the glow plugs which have a pressure sensor built in… One of them was sensing (incorrectly?) that there was too much pressure in one of the cylinders… The problem went away when I changed the plug(s) for the full priced “proper” ones rather than slightly cheaper ones I found on Amazon/Ebay, but that doesn’t mean that the “proper” ones can’t fail too!

I also had a similar issue when accelerating with higher rpm from quite low rpm and the error code was P228A Fuel Pressure Regulator. Presumably it felt it couldn’t deliver enough fuel for the requested RPM?? The engine was not quite up to temperature because it was on a short journey. The specific issue has not re-occurred so I haven’t looked any further.

Have you read the error codes when the problem happens? I currently keep a bluetooth OBDII device in the glove box, and read the codes with an android app, “Car Scanner Pro”. This might give a few clues, though it won’t physically change a sensor!
